Legislation changes as of January 1st, 2017 in Queensland require all residential properties to have a photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarm in each bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms and at least one on every storey of a multi level property, in the most likely route to exit.

Queensland Legislation

  • The Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990 and the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008.
  • Part 5A of the Building Fire Safety Regulation deals with interconnected smoke alarm requirements for domestic dwellings

Additionally, these requirements will become mandatory for ALL dwellings in Queensland by 1st January 2027.
